I like to rinse my razor (I also like the warm blade)-- and the faucet is always there... taunting me....

The other story you'll hear a lot is how people cut their hands as they move the razor from one hand to the other.

Both of these can be avoided it you follow a simple rule: when holding the razor, always *look* at it, either directly or through the mirror... no matter how comfortable you get with it...

The other one you'll hear is how people will drop their razor and instincitvely try to grab it before it hits the sink or floor... so keep a towel on the side of the sink and use it to keep your hands and the tang of the razor dry and free from shaving cream!

I dropped a survival knife once as I was hacking some bushes many years ago. I caught it point first and have a nice little scar where it stuck in my hand..

I always wipe my razor on a flannel/facecloth and have a towel on the toilet lid (loo is next to the sink) for when I want to put my razor down. I always dry my hands/razor before swapping over.

    Default me too.

I have also done the "sink clunk" - it sucks! I learned right away that I should have my eye on the razor the whole time rather than on my face (especially while rinsing - really, why would I be looking up while rinsing below? Perhaps admiring my ugly mug...). Eye on the ball. Good luck!

    Been there, done that...
Don't feel too bad. These things happen to many beginners. Even Lynn must have sucked at shaving and honing at one point in time.

Another one: when you have to put the razor down to do something (rinse your face or such) always fold the razor partially closed so that the edge is between the spine and the scales. That way you can safely pick it up again with dinging the edge.

When I started I laid down the razor open like I use it. When I picked it up, the edge gradded the table cover and I heard a 'ting'. The result was minot damage to the cover and part of the edge that didn't shave anymore.
