Thanked: 3First shave, big mistake
So I got my Dovo from SRD today, and tried shaving with it. I was rinsing some lather and hair off of the blade, and I hit blade on the faucet when I was bringing it back up. There is now a small nick on the cutting edge about a centimeter away from the toe.
Now from what I've read on this site, I shouldn't attempt to use this blade until it is fixed. I have the certificate for free honing for life, but this really needs to be repaired, not just honed.
Is it expensive to repair a nick? I'm really bummed about this, and I feel like an incompetent ass for letting this happen.

Thanked: 13245First get hold of Lynn, he can fix anything !!!!! (he is so going to kill me for that one )
As you pointed out this is beyond a normal honing, but if it can be fixed he can do it...
PS: You probably already know that Lynn owns SRD right???

Man I hate to hear that - and on the first shave? That sucks. Those faucets do like to bite razors.
Small consolation I know - but you are not the first - it happens.
I don't know what the cost to repair the damage might be, but contact the vendor and they will treat ya right I'm sure.
Up until the faucet bit your razor... was the shave going OK?

Thanked: 3The shaving was about what I expected - not perfect. A few weepers, some razor burn, and some spots that I just couldn't "get." There's a lot I need to work on, for sure. I'll just get in touch w/ Lynn and see what I need to do.

It is a bummer but I bet you'll never do it again. Like gssixgun said, if Lynn can't fix it nobody can.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I did the exact same thing when I was starting. I contacted SRD and they let me use my free honing certificate to repair it, but mine was really really small and was probably repaired with a simple honing. So where I can't guarantee that your free honing will cover it, I can guarantee that SRD is amazing to work with for this type of situation. Contact em and see for yourself.

Yes it happens to many of us. The positive thing is after this incident you'll be so careful in the future it will never happen again.
Just send it out and get it repaired even if it costs a few bucks. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Sorry to hear it. I'll just add my voice to those who've done it themselves. I've been there.

Dang that sucks bro, you have to watch those faucets, I havn't been using a straight for long and I can't even tell you how many times I'v banged the blade off the doorknob while stropping, luckily no chips or dings, just have to be a little carful. Now when you go to wash it off do you swish it around in the water? What I do it just whipe it off with a wet wash cloth. Its alot safer on the blade.
