Been there, done that...
Don't feel too bad. These things happen to many beginners. Even Lynn must have sucked at shaving and honing at one point in time.
Another one: when you have to put the razor down to do something (rinse your face or such) always fold the razor partially closed so that the edge is between the spine and the scales. That way you can safely pick it up again with dinging the edge.
When I started I laid down the razor open like I use it. When I picked it up, the edge gradded the table cover and I heard a 'ting'. The result was minot damage to the cover and part of the edge that didn't shave anymore.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 3I got my razor back from SRD this weekend and it looks good as new! I just finshed up my second shave and I managed to not hit the edge on anything this time. Instead of rinsing the blade under the faucet between passes, I dipped it in a sink full of water and wiped it on a towel, as recommended in another thread.
Overall, the second shave was much better. Only one weeper, a lot less burn, and more whisker removal. There were still trouble spots where I just couldn't get the blade to remove the hair, so I touched up with a mach3. It wasn't the best shave I've ever had, but it was an improvement over last time.

First Shave, Big Mistake
Hello, Mr. ctbillings,
Yours is an unfortunate accident, but nothing unusual. As many have already suggested, please send it to Lynn. He can fix anything.
Most importantly, don't let the accident discourage your straight razor adventure. Take the mistake in stride and move on.
Regards,
Obie

ctbillings- Sorry to hear about that! I am yet another who can empathize with you. I wrecked my edge on the first shave, too. I didn't ding it on a faucet, but rather, through carelessness and cheapness, tried to strop my razor on something which was evidently totally unsuitable.
I had to send it to be re-honed, and am expecting it back any day now. Lesson learned! Razors are delicate creatures.
Judging by the time stamps, you should be getting yours back soon too, if you haven't already. Good luck and don't give up!
