First Shave
Well, today was my first shave. Not bad.
I read on this site that its not good to shave your whole face on the first try, just start with sideburns. It feels so much better than a normal razor that I could not resist the feel of the razor on the rest of my face. I only tried WTG and a little ATG on my cheeks. Surprisingly smoother than a normal razor.
You learn a lot about your face. For instance, I learned that the hairs on my right cheek lay flatter than my left cheek, making it not feel as smooth as my left. Crazy.
I'm looking forward to getting used to this and eventually mastering it.

Congrats. I did the same thing when I started and just shaved my whole face. It turned out ok for me to. Believe it or not your shaves will get better when you start to learn better angle and touch, that and all the other fun stuff that comes with straight shaving.

I agree with noticing where all your hair lies. It's kinda like washing your car by hand...after a few times, you start noticing little things about your car that you just never knew.

This is probably a sucky and bad habit building method, but a relative of mine said that he lathered up and used a Popsicle stick to practice the basic angle, then used the stra8.

I'm pretty new to SR shaving myself but like you I couldn't resist jumping right in and shaving my whole beard the first time out. I've been at it for about a month now and I am still learning new things almost every time I shave. Even with my small amount of experience I am getting some of the best and most enjoyable shaves I have ever had in my life.
One thing that helped me out a lot when learning my face and my beard was to let it grow out for a couple of days so It was easier to see exactly what direction the hair on different parts of my face grew in. Then you can adjust your technique and find which angle provides the closest and most comfortable shave for you. Keep at it brother and good luck. Welcome to SRP.
