    Default Neck and Collar Line

OK, so officially have been straight razor shaving for a week now and love it.
First several days, I was using a Feather Disposable safety blade, now I am using my new Dovo Best.
I am having a problem with my neck in the area of my collar line. I seem to nick this area quite frequently and am having an issue getting a good shave in this area. I know it is my technique, but I am wondering if anyone has any tips for that area of the face. I am thinking if I stretch the skin from the back/side part of my neck it will flatten that area out more, which I am thinking is my issue. I don't seem to be able to get a good flat area to shave.
Second question, relating to that, my neck in that area now has some small battle scars and irritation, would it be prudent to not shave that area for a day or two? I could always go back to my Gillette Fusion on that area of my neck for a day or two if needed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for all your help here, you guys rock!

Yes, If you have battle scars, I wouldn't irritate them further. It'd be a good idea to put some Triple Antibiotic Ointment or Bacetracin on it to help with healing. As far as your neck goes, Stretch, tilt your head to one side, etc...Pay close attention to your angle. It's an easy spot for it to get away from you, and take you time, and enjoy it....

prrfan, i have a beard about 90% or the time so ive had tonnes of practice just shaving my neck and collar area, the first thing i did when i started wet shaving with a st8 was to draw a map of my face with the directions of the grain, i have a weird spiral to the right of my adams apple which is a bit tricky, if your getting alot of irritation take a day off, dont punish your skin further. remember light pressure is the key. feel the hairs pop as you shave and maintain that angle when it feels just right. good luck, your skin will grow more acustom to your razor in time.

    First off welcome to SRP!

What is your shaving prep routine? What type of shaving cream dow you use? Basically, to shave the neck area, I would go slow. Don't rush. Make small strokes.

    How sharp is your razor?

These questions would help answer your issue.

Prep is shower, followed by hot towel, Col. Conks glycerin shave soap applied with boar brush. Dovo is new honed by Lynn, so no worries about that. I certainly think that once I find the correct angle and way to stretch the skin to get it flat, I'll nail it!!

I just tried looking into the mirror and stretching/tilting without having to worry about the shave cream and razor and that helped!!! I think I have a better idea how the skin looks now with out the shave cream on, if that makes sense! Thanks for the tips!!
