    oh man, i've been trying to figure out what kind of material to use for my 8/8 stubtail restore project...that just might be it.

    Another factor to consider is what it's like to work with the different materials. There's a post in the Wiki about toxicity of different sawdusts. Epoxy dusts are no good either, and working bone or ivory on a belt sander makes a good runner up for the Smell of Death.

    I got some very pretty 1/8" x 3 x 24 sheets of dark cherry, curly maple, and curly mahogany at Rockler; they've been user-friendly and easy to learn on.

    Check out the Workshop threads; there's a ton of info there on materials, methods, finishes, etc.

    QuickNicker did a really beautiful job with musk ox horn on a massive Rodgers. Take a look for it in the galleries. May be a bit buried, as it was a while ago.
