What a great read! Thanks to the OP for this.

I've tried both a half hour of preparation and none at all and never experienced an iota of difference in the shave. I just don't have that much time to waste on something that is based on shaving mythology and has no practical effect.

I'm with Ace on this. OTOH ........ some guys like to go through the ritual because for them it does make a difference. Some may just like to extend the pleasure of the shave to 'pampering' themselves with the extra attention. There are days where I do one pass, and others where I do a second just to enjoy lathering with a favorite brush one more time.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I do the half hour (or more) of prep on the weekends or when I have the time to spare. It might improve the shave by 1% or it might not. What is does improve is my attitude for the rest of the day.
