Mix two parts vegemite with 3 parts coke, and add a pinch of bicarb. If that don't clean things off, nothing will!

I hope you enjoyed your shave!! No doubt the fouled blade will be as clean as a whistle after following all the advice.

WD 40, CRC, RP7, or my favourite, Inox, is all you need to both clean & lubricate your razor. Inox is food safe so will not likely react with your skin.

Do not put vinegar or any acids on your blades they will darken or rust.
Do not put acetone on your plastic scales they may dissolve.

Some turpentine or kerosene should clean up the Wapi too.

Possibly a silly question, but does this mean you could use a dab of petrol on a rag as well? Would that work?

And what about methylated spirits? Could that work here?

    MistressNomad,

You might want to try a small amount of Pine-Sol or some other pure pine oil based household cleaner in a sink of hot water. NOTE: Read the label of the bottle carefully before using the contents to insure that it does not contain any caustic chemicals. Soak the blade(s) of your razors in it for a few minutes and see if that begins to dissolve the sticky residue.

An older, very experienced cleaning woman once told me that the best way to remove oil is to use oil. She would pour a bottle of Pine-Sol down the bathtub drain of my house to breakup the collected body oil in the traps of the bathroom sink and tub of my house. It worked like a charm.

I tried to find that inox, tried bunnings and they only had a massive can of it, and kmart didnt have it .

I have been using this oil for my knives, and have been using it on my razor blade. Sometimes small amounts get on my scales (they are ebony), will this oil damage them?

I dont have much of that oil left, but i plan to get my hands on some inox very soon .

On the topic of cleaning blades, i clean my knife blades using a qtip and warm soapy water. You use the qtip to rub and clean the blade (gently), then clean with warm water. Then you can use another qtip and oil to keep rubbing the areas to help release anything stubborn. I find that works great on my knives, havent had a chance to try it on my razor though.

    EDIT:
If you read the description for the oil i linked, it mentions it cleans the metal as well as protects.

Petrol contains Benzene down here & I wouldn't risk skin contacting that for any reason. Methylated spirits is in with a chance & as I said before Kerosene or turpentine could work safely too.
