Thanked: 1New to the site
Hello everyone, just here to introduce myself and say that I'm excited to try straight razor shaving.
I've read all of the beginner articles over the past couple days after I randomly had the desire to start shaving with a straight razor instead of a safety.
I remember when I was 14 when on a family vacation in the Philippines...my dad took me to a barber who gave me the best haircut and shave of my life (didn't have much facial hair back then but had enough!)...and this was all for 50 cents. The barber gave me practically a buzz cut..blended up on the sides...all with scissors...and proceeded to use the straight razor to shape everything up and shave the little facial hair I had. I remember my neckline and face just feeling fresh and I've never had that feeling with a safety razor since.
So I'm going to give the straight razor a shot. First step has been to read all of the great info you guys post here and soak up as much as I can so I'm as prepared as possible. Next step is to buy the equipment I'll need...and I'm just waiting for a razor that looks good for a beginner to come up in the classifieds for around 40 bucks or so (I plan to buy a decent strop and soap/brush too).
Well that's pretty much it, can't ask for too many pointers since I'm sure any questions I have are already answered in the beginner's forum. Nice to meet everybody and I'm looking forward to a lifelong adventure in the art of straight razor shaving

Hello, Charlie20:
Welcome to SRP. I am glad you already have done your research, which includes what to buy as a beginner. All the vendors listed here are reputable, and many of them have starter kits that include razor, strop and brush. Also, you can check out the Classified here. Take your time selecting. Ask questions.
After that, take your time learning technique. The art and craft of straight razor shaving takes patience and a methodical way of doing things. Part of the fun is the journey. Good luck.
Regards,
Obie
