I feel silly asking
I am truly sorry for asking if this has been covered before. I looked in the Wiki, and did an advanced search to no avail. Is BBS determined by running the hand down the face or up the face (with the grain or against the grain). I know what BBS is, I'm just trying to determine if I am there yet. With the grain is super smooth, against the grain is still a bit course, but still better than with a mach3. Thanks for the help, everyone on here is great!

Thanked: 1195Unfortunately that's one of those questions that will never be fully answered as it's too hard to quantify. Ask 10 members what their defintion of BBS is and you'll get 10 different answers.
See for yourself and search for BBS threads in the Shaving section; there's more than one debate that has concerned this topic.

That is a fair question. I define bbs as a smooth surface running my fingertips in any direction following the shave. OTOH, more often than not I don't have 100% bbs because there always seems to be a spot I don't quite get but 95% bbs most of the time is acceptable to me. As Ryan says others may have a different idea of the sought after bbs.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

to me BBS is all directions and i only get it in spots.
IMHO BBS is the closest shave possible(saving skin)

BBS for me is smooth in all directions.
Agreeing with JimmyHAD, 95% BBS is pretty easy. It's the patches here and there that aggravate me. Awhile back, there was a thread asking whether you cheated after a straight shave, using a safety razor to hit those patches. I'm ashamed to admit I am one of those who cheats with a safety razor a time or two a week.
Sorry...

+1, BBS is smooth in all directions. For me, the neck, and close to my Goatee are the hardest to get BBS on. Many times, I'll do a final pass with no shave cream or soap to get problem spots. I don't recommend this until your face is broken in.....

I have a goatee too. I find its easy to get BBS on the cheek but not the neck. I can only shave wtg on the neck. If I go xtg I get a close shave but bad burn and bumps.

to me, BBS is running your hand gently across the face with no pressure. The way a woman would stroke your face to check for closeness.
If you are indenting into the skin at all, you will find something.
But that's only my $0.02
