Default Ok, another question, about soap this time

So, I bought a Van Der Hagen Premium Shaving Set ($10) which includes shaving soap. I also bought some Williams Mug Shaving soap at CVS. Should I just, like, not use these soaps and buy something better, or are the up to par? I have a feeling they will last me a while, and they seem to work a lot better than goo. Your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Paulson

I have been using Van Der Hagen for a year now, it is good soap. Not the best but good.

VDH is good soap. Another "cheap" option is the palmolive shave sticks from connaughtshaving.com or superlather.com. They are about $5 a piece shipped.

There's nothing wrong with either the Van Der hagen or the Williams. Go ahead and use them. You can always upgrade later, if you want to.

In fact, if you buy some nice shave cream later, you can mix the two and get superlather. Add some pure glycerin to the mix and you can make uberlather.

    +1 Jhenry

They'll work. If you want to kick it up a notch, Uber it. Basically, you add 5 drops of Glycerin available at wal mart, walgreens, CVS, Amazon....And some cheap shave cream, I like something called Kiss my Face, It's in a pump bottle, one shot of that with the glycerin in your mug with the williams will give you tons of lather....

Actually, I'd transfer the Williams soap via brush to a scuttle, then uber it up in there....Check our WIKI for UBER. It may explain it better than I am..

I used to use Williams a lot back in "The Day"
Now, I'm spoiled with the high end stuff....
    Good Luck...

+1 to zib on the kiss my face shave cream , the unscented one is the best IMO and it has lots of aloe so it fights razor burn, goes extremely well with Mama Bears soaps , and Ogallala, also you can find it at wholefoods

VDH is what Ive been using and I like how it leaves my skin feeling. Better than any gell or cream i used to use. Course I have yet to try any higher end soaps... I tired Williams, but it dosent leave my skin feeling as good... thats my .02$ This is Comming from the poor kid whos Str8 Shaving on less than 40$. I need a good brush though, the burma shave works well, but the dumb thing is falling apart. lol.
