Hi and welcome to SRP.

That's a great set to start, but I would seriously consider upgrading to 3" wide strop. It's not that you cannot learn to strop on a narrower width, but this is going to be challenging enough, the wider strop will remove a bit of that challange.

+1 on David's and Scott's advice. You can't go wrong with that and I too would upgrade the strop.

I'll join in and agree that you picked a good starter set. With a vendor, like SRD, you really can't go wrong. Just remember, If your new to shaving with a straight razor, there is a learning curve, and most, most new guys tend to blame the equipment.
In your case, the razor will come pre honed, so it will be shave ready. Check out the wiki, there are some cool video's on youtube, and ask questions...

If money is an issue, and you can't upgrade your strop at this time, don't sweat it. I started on a 2 inch strop and did fine.

Good Starter set and welcome to Straight Shaving and SRP. I do like zooming back and forth on my 3" strop, so something to consider.

First, welcome aboard and welcome to the forums.

Second, great starter kit? Great kit all around! I don't think you have to get a "better" razor when you get more experienced. Granted, you can get fancier blades with more expensive materials or different scales, etc. However, that is a quality razor and a quality strop. If you don't feel the need, desire, (addiction ) to get another razor that will serve you well. Quality steel is quality steel.

I would also say go for the 3" strop.

P.S. I have that razor and she shaves wonderfully.

+1. A 3" strop is much better to learn on, no need to use an X stropping pattern. My first razor was the Dovo best quality 6/8", and it was good for learning on. If you decide you wanna keep going with it, I would recommend eventually getting a stainless steel razor (as opposed to carbon steel), because it will keep a sharp edge longer.

Those SRD strops are really well made.

Thanks guys you made me feel better about ordering that, probably place it tomorrow or Wednesday, and I might upgrade to the 3 inch strope, I could see myself nicking the sides of the other one doing it on the skinner one.
