Perhaps...Dovo "Best Quality" are great razors for starters.
As a starter razor, though, I would probably opt for the 5/8" rather than the 6/8" blade.
Whichever size blade you get, make sure that it has been professionally honed prior to purchase.

How would a 6/8 shave differently from say a 5/8?

bokaba,
When purchasing your new Dovo try to purchase at minimum a razor and strop set. Upgrade to the 3" wide strop. It will make the task of learning proper stropping technique easier.
Also, check out the link beneath my signature. It provides a wealth of info. for str8 razor beginners.
Take care...Last edited by jhenry; 04-21-2010 at 12:37 AM.

I agree that the 5/8 is probably a little easier when you start trying to navigate around the curves on your face. Then again, my first razor was a 6/8, and I learned just fine.
If I were starting all over, I'd buy a blade from the classifieds here. I have an affinity for old classic razors and there are some dandies advertised all the time there, that will cost you less than the Dovo and come shave ready.

added; oh and the Dovo is a fine razor, to answer your question

5/8 is my favorite I'd say size is up to your preference, something that you'll build through experience, so for the start I guess start by looking at the wiki, that's really helps me ^^ and maybe you.
I bought a vintage blade from the classified section and couldn't be happier, affordable, great name, good quality despite the age (had no relevance tho) DOVO is great as far as I can read from the review, it just hasn't fit in my budget for now.
Good luck,
Erick

That Dovo is just fine as a starter. However the suggestions given are just a good as well. Without knowing what your really looking for these suggestions can only add more info to the choice.
Haha sometimes more info can cloud the issue

Thanked: 190Yes, a decent starter razor. My first was a Dovo Tortoise which is in the same category.

I really like Dovo's plain-spined razors. For the newbs, it should be easier to learn to strop since they flip over much easier than razors like the Bismarck.

Any other thoughts? I'll probably go with the Dovo 6/8
