I can't really say what everyone does relative to dominant hand shaving. I came very naturally to me. Give it a try.

I would suggest trying to learn to use both hands. Works for me.
As far as the sliced up face goes, look at the up-side of it...
a) I have been at this for 1 1/2 years and have sliced myself more than enough times. They all healed with no scars. Its a clean cut (face is covered with soap), with a sharp edge, and there's no skin missing. Just watch to make sure you don't get any infection. Lots of us will rub in a little polysporin on a cut to speed healing and help prevent infection.
b) the cuts are battles scars to be proud of! You are doing something "dangerous" that most guys (and ladies) are afraid to try, and you are mastering a new skill. The cuts will serve to be a conversation starter so you can expound on the new experience to people!
One thing in the Wiki I found very helpfull was Dr Chris Moss's guide book "the art of the straight razor shave". its here : http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...azor-Shave.pdf
