    Default Hello from new member

Been lurking here for awhile after I got the bug to try what my grand-dads, uncles, and Dad did for years. Grew up seeing SR's on the vanity shelfs in my grand-dads bathroom for years but was always forbidden from touching them.

My only experience with straight shaving prior to now was getting chased around the house with my grand-dad's razor strop!

Anyway, I have read and re-read the forums and Wiki's here and finally took the plunge on a Dovo 6/8 hollow a couple of weeks ago. Have been slowly progressing and today went for the whole shave. Couple of nicks but didn't require a transfusion so all is well. So far, other than the nicks and a little "burn" I am hooked.

Now all I need to do is keep the edge as sharp as the day Lynn and Don sent me the razor.

So, thanks to all on this forum for your information. I look forward to many more posts, tips, and getting to know others on this forum.

That's called "Super Lurking". It's where you go all the way through your first shave without making a peep here.

You obviously have been doing all of the correct reading and landed safely with a razor from SRD.

Good luck to you, post a lot (or any for that matter), and don't quit - this is good for your soul!

    Sleepy,

Welcome to SRP. Glad to have you aboard.

It sounds like you are progressing well. Congratulations! keep it up.

A few nicks when shaving are par for the course. That's what a styptic pencil or alum block is for. You might also want to get some antibiotic cream for those nicks as well, so they don't become bumps that you will cut during future shaves.

Again, welcome to SRP. Take care--and smooth shaving.

Thanks for the warm welcome all! Much appreciated. So much info....so little time.

I will say for other beginners that may read this thread...the video by Lynn is invaluable. There is a lot of information that is very well presented there too!
