Thread: Purchasing a Dovo

I am thinking of buying my first straight razor soon, Dovo.com hasn't been working but i think they said that they have someone hone the razor to "shave ready", i know there's a difference between what manufacturers call "shave ready" and the real thing. Since Dovo claims only to make 150 razors a day I was wondering if they make them the real "shave ready". Are Dovo's the real deal or should i get it honed professionally. The reason I ask is because I could buy this razor on amazon.com for cheaper with free shipping or from another site and pay for razor, shipping, plus honing if they charge extra.

I bought mine from here. It was a little more expensive than I could have gotten elsewhere, but it came sharpened by someone knows as being one of the best in the business.

I can recommend it from experience without any reservations.

Yea on that website the razor is about $10 more expensive so it's not too bad, as long as shipping isn't insane i can probably get it for under the cost it would be to get the amazon.com one honed

If you are tight enough on that you are contemplating a razor that may not be shave ready, then I suspect you may want to look in the classifieds for a razor that is truly shave ready and will be of good quality.

It is not enough to aquire a piece of equipment in this art. You must have equipment that works. A shave ready razor and a strop are the minimum you can get away with.

I have to agree with all that has been said. Getting a shave ready razor really is the way to go.Also I have bought many razors from classfieds all have been great razors at a nice price.

I have looked through the classifieds but all the ones that I've liked were already sold, plus i know this sounds weird since i don't even have a razor yet, but I'm really picky about how it looks

Keep looking on the classifieds. new ones are added all the time your patience will be rewarded.

I felt like this too prior to purchasing my first razor. Since then, I have purchased two razors on the classifieds here and both out shave my brand new, pretty looking razors every day of the week. If I could do it all over again, I would have purchased my first razor here, and moved on from there.

IMHO, if you are going to purchase a DOVO you should go with one of the vendors such as Vintage Blades or Straight Razor Designs who advertise here at SRP. Then you will know for certain that it is shave ready.
