Thanked: 270That's what I think. He's speaking about the goo in pressurized cans. If he is where I was just a few months ago, he isn't even aware of the traditional shaving products.
When I started using the shaving soaps and creams I have to order online because I can't find them anywhere in town, my skin began to feel that solid, robust sensation the author describes. I cut myself on occasions that I "zigged" when I should have "zagged" with my razor. The use of a brush probably contributes to the therapeutic effect.
There has to be a reason I like shaving after I hated it for 40 years. The author found one piece of the puzzle, the goo, but I think I've put the puzzle completely together. Maybe we can contact this person and invite him over here.

Thanked: 1262I am guessing he doesn't even know there is shaving cream other than what comes in a can. His argument would still apply to Tobs et al

Thanked: 1371The next great truth about shaving: you don't actually need a razor. Your razor has made your whiskers hard and dependent upon the blade. But just try letting your beard grow for a few weeks and then plucking the hairs individually. Soon you will be able to just wipe the beard off of your face. Razors are a conspiracy.

Yes he's right. After using canned goo for many years my skin turned to mush and just sloughed off and now I have to wear a skin tight rubber suit to keep my insides where they belong.

Personally, I've always been a little curious about why/if my TOBS creams have some kind of topical numbing agent in the mix. (I'm too lazy to confirm my suspicions by Googling the ingredients.) I can actually feel my face growing numb after a few seconds of lathering. I wonder if that's a bad thing in the long run.

I read this article when it first came out. He's talking about Edge and stuff like that. This fellow probably doesn't even shave. lewrockwell.com is a fine site though. I read it every day.

I have read here that soap does have some negative effects for shaving, and it is best to use a skin cleanser before shaving. So perhaps there is a hint of merit, but I think I'll add that to the ignore advice column.
