    Default Neck Hair Grain

I've watched around 5 or 6 shaving videos on Youtube, and they all have a very similar technique. When it comes to shaving the neck, they all shave down in the first pass, because that's how their neck hair grows. Does anyone else have the opposite? I feel like maybe I'm hallucinating, but it feels like my neck hair grows 'Up' instead of 'Down'.

It might also explain why I always cut the hell out of my neck when I shave.

My neck hair grows down until the last 3cm or so which grows up. When I started DE shaving I got terrible razor burn in this area until I realized this and changed direction.

Mine grows away from my adams apple, so to get a really smooth shave I have to literally shave sideways. So I scythe. It gets most of it but there's often a little area I miss.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Mine grows towards my adams apple right under the jawline then goes down again. I have to change angles mid stroke twice.

Mine grows up and slightly toward the ear. I only use one pass - the natural one of course which is down and curving toward the center. This is mostly ATG on my neck, but with a slight XTG bias. Works great for me.

Mine grows up and away from the Adams apple like Frankenstein till right below the jawline. At the jawline is interesting cause it seems to grow a couple different ways there. But for my neck I always start with an upstroke as my first pass. then depending on time will do a downward stroke at a slight angle from Adams apple to ear and if do a third reverse that.

So would it be advisable to go WTG on my neck, or just learn to shave down the neck ATG? It sounds like most people simply go downward on the neck, even if it's ATG.

For my first pass I make sure that I am going WTG for each separate part of my neck. After that I am less particular.

    I do.
I can't shave that way. Although I shave down until little under the jaw line, I have to shave the rest in the reverse way. Then on the second pass I can go XTG for a touch up. I never go completely 180 degress ATG on the neck or anywhere else. It will burn.

It's ATG, XTG, then WTG for me. As I said, it's not perfect but it's pretty close.
Good luck with it, by the way. It's not easy and it takes some time to get it down.
