My first str8 shave today! Awesome baby
Had my first str8 razor shave today. All I can say is awesome!
Used my normal prep as I do with DE - hot shower including neutragena razor defense face scrub, user Geo Trumper Sandalwood shave cream, applied lather then placed hot towel and relaxed for three minutes, lather again and went to town! My new str8 is a dovo inox. Surprisingly I shaved my entire face! NO cuts can you believe that? Took it nice and slow, two passes wtg.
Finished up with the DE atg to get a bbs.
I did have two days worth of stubble which may have made my first attempt a little more challenging. I was able to use both right and left hands to get the job done. Did I mention no cuts? Lol
what I learned most from my first str8 shave was that I need to focus on stretching the skin. I'm liking what I was able to accomplish. I was only going to shave my cheeks and build on my experience but I felt so comfortable. I plan limit my Str8 shaves to weekends only for the time being as I have more time to focus and work on technique.
I'm loving being able to really experience shaving the way it should be. I enjoy my DE and now I have a new interest in str8s. My barber has a new dovo ironwood available. Based on my first experience it won't be on his shelf long!

Being used to the DE I think helped you out with the shave. I know it has helped me with the learning curve. Also one thing that I like about the straight is that longer stubble is no problem like with the DE. I notice that long growth pulls with the DE, yet the straight slices right through it!!
Did you get the Inox shave ready?

Yeah, I prefer having a few days growth with a straight. Just slices through it like a hot knife through buttah!

Thanked: 993Sounds like you're off to a great start! Good to hear.
My favourite part of having a couple days of growth is when I touch my bare cheeks when it's all over. Just like a baby's bottom.
Cheers,

Thanked: 9Congrats...let the blood letting begin. . Slow and steady wins the race. When I started 5 months ago, I think it took like 30 mins to shave, with Mach touch up. I'm down to 15 mins max now with no touch up. Just have to work on left hand coordination.
