Thanked: 0Bad cut...
OK it happened after two months of no mishaps, a momentary lapse of attention resulted in slicing into finger tip almost to bone with a beautiful Wade & Butcher. I was holding razor with left (non-dominant) hand and rinsing, and as I went to use right thumb to rub shave residue off blade somehow the middle finger of right hand contacted the edge and went into it. After about 45 minutes of pressure to stop bleeding and pondering whether throw a stitch into it, the wife (who is a surgeon) decided to steristrip it, approximating the edges and shaking her head, questioning the wisdom of my new hobby with a "I told you so" look on her face. So... just in case you don't remind yourself everytime you pick up the razor, one needs to be constantly mindful of where the edge is, in relationship to your body.

Been there. Got a deep one on my index finger wiping oil on the blade. I am reminded of a poster I have that portrays a biplane that had landed, unaccountably, in a tree. People are gazing up at it in wonder. The caption reads:
"Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity, or neglect."
Ditto the straight razor. Especially spike points, which I've ranted about elsewhere. We're talking scars worthy of a 19th century German University Duel Fraternity.

Thanked: 1195Yup, you have to be mindful of where the blade is at ALL times when in use, not just around your body but by faucets too (although I will admit that I haven't heard a "razor dinged on the faucet" story in a while ).
Ironically the worst SR cut I've had was on my pinkie finger.

Thanks for the feedback, guys, it has helped this recurrent thought that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer.... (that honor would go to the Wade & Butcher).

been there
For those of us with wives who are not surgeons (or at all sympathetic), keep a supply of band-aids and superglue on hand. Yes, superglue.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
