First razor acquired
I received my first razor in the mail yesterday. It is a dubl duck gold edge, used, but in good shape. The blade hits one side of the scales when closing, and it opens too easy, but real nice. Now it is on to find a hone and strop. The edge can take off arm hair easy, but not ready to try on my face.

Thanked: 84Congrats man, I'm sure you will love it. Nice score on the DD
Before you try to hone it yourself, I would send it off to someone like Lynn to hone it up for you. Then you can hold off on spending the money for a hone and work on learning how to strop and shave right now.
It will make thing's much easier in the long run.

Very nice score..DD Goldedges usually shave quite well. Where did you get it...It may well be shave ready so don't do anything other than test shave with it...Dubl Duck razors are notorious for blades hitting the scales, and warped scales. Not to worry, just be careful closing it...As far as it being loose, that's also an easy fix. I believe Lynn demonstrates the technique on his DVD. If you don't have it, it's an excellent DVd

Thanked: 1Congrats on the acquisition... I'm a newb as well. I'm going to recommend the filly strop which is what I got to start out. All you need and nothing you don't. Affordable too so it won't sting too bad when you nick it... and believe me you will

Congrats on your first razor acquisition. You're well on your way to straight razor heaven. Dubl ducks are great shavers.
Follow the previous advice...Stay away from the hone for now. It appears that your dubl duck is already shave ready. Once you get your strop, concentrate on perfecting your stropping skills. Practice with a butter knife before stropping your vintage straight razor."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Re: First razor
This is great advice. So I will look for a strop for now, and stay awqy from honing. I bought the razor on ebay for what I thought was a great price after looking at razors and prices there for a couple of weeks, and looking at the forums here on good razors.
