    I don't know if its the light or angle but you might want to check the edge with some magnification. It looks a little rough in areas. The discoloration that close to the edge is less usual than on the upper parts of the blade for water spots or just surfave rust. I don't like anything near the edge cause it could extend to the very edge and affect the bevel and cutting edge. I would clean it off.

    I'd definitely clean that up. It will likely need a rehone as well. The edge does look like it may be compromised but good chance rubbing metal polish over it will dull the edge regardless.
    The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
