Thanked: 3I started a few months ago with a Dovo 5/8. I've since added a 6/8 that I actually like better. However, I can't imagine starting off with the 6/8. That size blade would have made me nervous.

Thanked: 23The dove best quality / strop set was what I started with as well. I agree with no there not being any training wheels. My first shave I got 3 nice size cuts from not paying attention. So just take your time and respect the process and you will enjoy that razor.

I highly recommend the Boker Edelweiss 5/8 over the comparable Dovo. In my opinion, the Boker is a better razor for the money. I own the Boker Edelweiss and it is one of my top shavers. I have since sold my 6/8 Dovo Best.
Honestly, either is a good choice, but I would go with a 5/8 blade, and for the price, I do not think you can beat the Boker.

Really and truly, I'd just pick a razor that appeals to you. It's like a golf club. when you stand over a golf club, if it looks great to you, the chances of success are much better.
If you have a razor that's visually appealing to you, and sharp, you should be fine.
Good luck!
