    Default blade size for beginner?

Looking to get a Dovo Best Quality Half Hollow for my first straight razor, now trying to decide on blade size. I have a smaller/thinner face structure. Any suggestions? Much appreciated!

Looks like a good razor. Just remember you are going to need a strop. That was the reason I got the Dovo I posted, it comes with a strop. Happy Shaving

5/8 round point is a great razor to start with. Just make sure you order shave ready from a reputable dealer. IE the ones listed on this site! The razor TSasser has a link to would be a great start!!! You will need a strop.

SRD has a great rep here (Lynne being the founder of this site). Don't hesitate to ask them any questions. They've always answered my questions without hesitation. That is a very nice razor. One thing, there is no such thing as beginner razor. It's either a straight, or it isn't. We don't have training wheels. You will be very satisfied with it. After you have developed your shaving skills you can venture out into other blade types, sizes, grinds, etc. But your first razor will always have a special place for you...

    Default Blade size

    Hello, Toughluck:

I suggest starting with a 5/8". Both 5/8" and 6/8" are good sizes for starters, but I lean toward the 5/8", because it is more maneuverable and easier to handle in the beginning. Eventually your taste might lead you to different sizes.

    Regards,

    toughluck,

The Dovo Best 5/8 half-hollow was the first razor I bought when I got back into straight shaving.

Some two (2) years and eighty (80) odd razors later, that Best is still one of my favourites; its is an excellent razor

I also found found that as time went on, I came to appreciate all sizes of blade from large to small, and all grinds

    Enjoy your Dovo Best !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

My second razor was a great 6/8 Dovo Special from SRD that was packaged with their 3" Latigo and webbing combo strop. I saved a LOT of money buying that way, and the razor arrived shave-ready from Lynn. Ya can't beat that!
