Thread: First nicks.. gotee related.

I don't have a gotee, but I wear a beard most of the time. I shave below the jawline, cheeks, back of neck, and "clean" the area below the mouth at least every 2 days.
So, I know the exact predicament your in. The best thing I've found to do is very hard to explain, and I think it's basically what has been already discussed.
I first do a with-the-grain pass the best I can.
For spots you just can't get to with an against-the-grain pass I'll slant the razor (not the angle of the blade...but the motion) at 45 degrees and do across-the-grain passes from both sides. If you take tiny strokes and work carefully you can effectively create a straight line this way.
It's easy to nick yourself when you slant the razor that much so it takes extra caution, but it's the best solution I've found.
Here, the *I* are the bottom line of your gotee and the */* and *\* represent the razor and *<* *>* represent the direction you are working

Hopefully that makes sense.Last edited by Soilarch; 11-24-2010 at 03:04 AM.

Ok, did some more creative stretching and came at it from different angles tonight. Worked alright but did create new challenges for gripping the razor. (My left hand seems to be hopeless) I can see that there are things that are working and that there's a definite learning curve.. I'm sure as I get more comfortable I'll be able to establish a good workable routine..

Took a few days off and today went really well.. I've incorperated a few of these ideas to my routine and am seeing much better results. Best and closest shave so far and I never even went ATG. Just with and across. I did fall I love with buffing, too. What a wonderful technique that I would have never tried if it hadn't been suggested here. Thanks guys. I loved str8 razors from the first shave but now I know that I can never go back for sure. Wow. It's really a shame that because of the hectic schedules we put on ourselves, this joy has been lost to our society.
