    Default first shave, i'm hooked

Tried shaving with a straight for the first time last night. Read lots and watched videos then went for it. I shaved WTG my whole face except mustache (growing one for Movember)and it took about 30mins. Great experience, but i did to many passes and have wicked razor burn today lol.

On the corser areas like my chin area it felt like the blade was grabbing a lot and not wanting to cut the hair. I got a bunch of weepers but no nicks.

Time to lurk some more and learn.

As a side note I make custom knives as a hobby and will be trying my hand at making some straights with 1095 and damascus.

Great Job. My first time I was only brave enough to shave one side of my face. I think the razor burn is par for the course with straight shaving in the beginning. It has to do with bad technique, incorrect angle and skin adjustment. I remember that being the most noticeable problem for me in my transition from cartridges.

In any event, it seems like you are on your way and don't need much advice. Lurk away and good luck shaving and making razors. Keep us posted on your progress on both.

Well done! Just be patient and it will all come together in due time. Keep us posted on your progress. As for being a custom knife maker, please post some photos of your creations...many of us here like sharp things.

On my first shave, I was determined that I could get a good shave from a fresh-bought razor. On top of not being sharp enough, I made toooooo many passes. It sucks 'cause while you're shaving, it doesn't really feel like it's too many passes, but after it dries and your pores close, your face feels like it's on fire. Definitely sucked.

Here are some pics (iphone sorry) of my first 2 knives. The one is forged from elevator cable, and has copper pommel and guard with ambyoa burl handle (my first knife). The other is O1 with black micarta scales with red liners and stainless hardware. I've been working on a few others just nothing finished lately with working 7 days a week.
