Thanked: 0Any Vancouverites/Honing question?
Hey folks, just wondering if there's anyone familiar with the Vancouver area that might be able to tell me where I can get my straight honed?
I've called a half dozen barbers but it seems this town uses disposables.
I do plan on learning the skill myself, but would like to get started shaving first and after getting my strope, my razor definately needs a tune up. It got through the hair, but a lot of tugging and burning.
anyways, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.
Cheers

Thanked: 275Have you tried a pasted strop? If you're lucky, that will be enough to give you a working edge again.
Pastes are available from vendors on this site, but you can buy some Veritas Honing Compound locally:
VeritasĀ® Honing Compound - Lee Valley Tools
Lee Valley has a store on Marine Drive near the Knight St bridge.
A little bit of that compound on a cloth or balsa strop might do the job for you. It worked well for me.
I think that Fendrihan, and maybe Rasage Poulin, offer Canadian-based honing services via mail.
I live in Richmond BC. Send me a PM -- I might be able to help. But I'm no honemeister.

Thanked: 993Dan Gauthier, who hones for Fendrihan, lives in Montreal. He was taking some time off, but may be back at it now. Check the Classifieds section of the site, at the very least, it's Canadian postage there and back!
Good luck,
