Thanked: 0Another first timer
Well I took plunge this past week. Had a beard. Shaved first with DE. It was tricker then I thought. Got few nicks and razor burn. Next day shaved cheeks and neck with Dove straight from Lynn. Lot better then expected no nicks. Finished with DE. Still got lot to learn. I'm sure I hadnt got lather right. Usually drys on face before I can get to it. I got to keep working on it. Thanks for all the support.

Welcome, and don't worry if you dont' get everything right the first time. So many aspects of straight shaving require a lot of practice to get right, whether it is shaving itself, or lather making or honing.
Know that the first shave is the hardest, since compounded with lack of technique and experience is fear. After you get that first out of the way, things get a lot better.
Oh, and congrats on your first straight razor shave!

Thanked: 443Welcome!
I live in a dry, dry place and sometimes my lather dries too. You can just rinse off the old lather and re-do that spot. Some people rinse off their whole first lather before any shaving.
For me, lather off a puck of soap dries faster than shaving cream lather. I think the difference is I don't add as much water when I make the lather on my face. I've started making soap lather in a mug, and that seems to last longer before drying out.
Good luck and have fun."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
