    Question Melting soap

I've read about melting soap in the microwave to let it settle in your mug so it's easier to build your lather. My question as silly as it may be is, do you use the same cup with the soap puck in the bottom to build your lather? Doesn't that use more soap. Granted I've been using the VDH puck because it works well, but I'm not sure if it'll make to rich a other especially since you need to draw all the runaway lather back to the middle which would be right back on top of the puck... Right or am i missing something?

I use a mug, which contains the soap, and a lathering bowl, which I keep on an electric mug warmer so my lather will stay nice and warm. I load my brush with soap from the mug, then build my lather in the bowl, to which I add water as needed. However, for many, many years I used only a mug, which contained my puck of soap. I loaded my brush (which was first soaked in hot water) with soap, then built the lather on my face. This is how almost all the ol' timers did it -- just a mug containing a puck of soap, a brush, and a razor.

I load my brush on the soap puck and than lather in a scuttle or a mug. You can also load your brush and than start building lather directly on your face.

Check out youtube for some lathering videos.

Well, i'm a beginner too. I can't say i've had much luck with soaps and lathers. But it makes sense that you would use the same mug you stuck the puck to. i would think having the puck settle would make it easier to whip up a lather without having the thing swirl around in the mug.

I just swtitched to cream. two light dabs on the face and a damp brush, and you get a nice consistent lather.

Ok so since the soap comes in it's own container it'll just be easier to keep it that way and use a separate mug for the lathering. Ok now that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

I usually grate it up with a cheese grader then mash it in my mug.
