4th shave tonight, making progress
I have been slowly improving from shave one where I only shaved my dominant cheek with my straight to tonight where I was able to complete about 85% of my face WTG. The area around my chin is still an enigma to me. After completing my chin with my DE, I was able to complete an ATG pass on both cheeks! I cleaned up my chin and neck with my DE to complete my ATG pass.
Overall, the quality of the shave is not great but I am not expecting miracles! I have one small nick on my neck and some razor burn on my left lower cheek. However, I had one stroke where I seemed to stumble upon that magic combination of pressure and angle because the hair seemed to melt off my face and onto the razor. But that was short lived as most of the time every stroke involved pulling to some degree. I clearly have more to learn but tonight was a very enjoyable experience.
With that I must give thanks to everyone here. The information on this site has been outstanding! Everyone is so inviting and open to answer questions from newbies. Shaving with a str8 razor is definitely a little bit science and a little bit of an art. I am hooked and cant wait for the next few shaves.

Thanked: 1263Sounds like you're doing just fine...congrats. It'll keep getting better and don't worry about having to touch up your chin, it's one of the hardest parts for many

Dont' worry about the chin. I'm 7 months in, and I still need to take my sweet time with it.
And congrats on your progress. Its a great feeling to see your technique improve, and stumble upon those perfect passes.

Thanked: 0Chins
THe chin isn't the worst for me, the worst for me is my upper lip, especially just below the nose; I can't get the angles nice, and I sneeze like crazy as a bonus when I even try to go XTG or ATG to get to the stubborn remants.

Thanked: 993Progress of any sort is a great feeling. If it's one stroke today, and another stroke tomorrow on a different area of the face, it's still progress, and is wonderful.
I was lucky when I began, in that I carry a goatee all year thus removing the difficulty of the chin. However....touching up the goatee with the str8 as opposed to the Mach3 began as a pain, and sometimes still is.
Good luck with your chin. Here's to more magic moments.
