Thanked: 1Passing it on....
I am relatively new to SR shaving but I have learned a few things by making mistakes, some of them potentially costly. So I figured I would pass my mistakes on to the new guys and it seems a topic that's not commonly spoken, I could be wrong though so don't quote me. I was shaving yesterday and was all through and squaring away my gear when I went to set my razor down, I scraped the blade across a small wooden shelf next to my sink. I marred the edge pretty good and that was just on a piece of wood!!. I also bumped the edge against my ceramic hone , after I had gotten done with a coarser hone and put a nick in the edge, I had to go beyond my initial hone to a 220, that's frustrating!!!!. So handle your SR like you would a katana, mind your edge!! Hey, I think I will use that as a signature, heheh. I hope this helps, careful shaving all!

The edge is indeed delicate & even brushing a fingernail will cause damage.
The razor should always be closed or partially closed when not in use. Even a 30º-40º opening is safe on a hard surface. The edge will not rock into contact. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Yup...Handle with care, especially at the sink...Some have hit the blade against the tap.
We have assumed control !

I use my grandfather's old razor and have noticed tiny dings at the end of the blade I think come from the scales when the blade bumped them while closing. Probably from me admiring the blade for years before it occurred to me to actually use it.
