I don't see how that "damage" would affect your shave. AAMOF, I am going to guess that those pits were already there and you just recently noticed them. Go ahead and strop and shave like you normally would. If it shaves fine, you'll sleep like a baby. If you feel it is negatively affecting your normally smooth shave, you'll have to hone. You can strop till the cows come home, but it won't remove metal.

Thanks for the advice Flyman, I'll definitely give it a go on a shave test before I send it away.

Just had a shave...
Nun2Sharo, Utopian and Flyman,
Wanted to thank you fine gentlemen for the advice. I set me strop on a nice flat surface and gave this razor a good stropping on both linen and leather. whipped up a good lather and went at it. I put it to my face and the initial swipe felt great! I don't know if it was the stropping or the great frame of mind that that first stroke put me in but I have to say this might have been my best shave yet! Nice and smooth and more importantly really comfortable. Not a nick, cut or bit of razor burn to speak of. Thanks again you all made my week!
