Tragedy has befallen my Pyramid...
Hello all,
I went to have my Monday night shave just now and found to my dismay that I had what looked like two tiny chips on my Geneva Cutlery Co Pyramid's edge near the tip . I don't know how this happened since it shaved great the last time I used it and the problem was apparent before my pre-shave stropping. I suppose it might have happened during my post shave strop routine, is this sort of damage possible with a few passes (about 10) on linen and few more on leather (about another 10)? More importantly, how do I fix it? Can additional stropping bring the edge back (more passes/more pressure)? What about .5 diamond spray? Will I need to sent this one out for honing? Please help! Here are some pics...sorry for the lousy quality but I only have my camera phone to work with.

Give it some additional stropping, 100 strokes linen then leather and see if that doesnt help, if not it will need to be honed.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 3795I don't think you could have done that with either strop unless you had something embedded in the strop. Honing is the only way to eliminate the damage.

Thanked: 3795I would guess that you hit/touched the razor against something. I hate disagreeing with Nun2sharp, but I don't believe that stropping will fix it because stropping does little, if any, metal removal and you will need to remove metal along the length of the edge to re-establish an edge at the bottom of that chip. Fortunately the chip is quite shallow so it will take little honing to remove the metal necessary to fix this.

Thanks again. I suppose stropping can't hurt it so I might as well try it; I could use some stropping practice anyway. But I'll have to send this one out I guess. Sad day...

Thanked: 3795Absolutely! The damage is minimal and in reality he probably can sort of shave around it. As long as that tiny chip does not scratch the strop, it likely won't scratch his face. Sorry for destroying all hope!
