Thanked: 1First Razor & some questions
Just bought a Anton Wingen JR Othello#52 today. I got it from Straight razor restoration, sales and honing. I talked with the owner Bob, and he seem like a good honest man.
I think I did OK, $79.00 and the razor is completely restored and ready to shave with.
Anyway for the past 40 years I have been using Williams mug soap with a Gillette DE or the newer disposable razors. When i start using the straight razor is there any reason to switch to something else , it seem to work for me.
Oh one more question, I am thinking of buying the 3in. strop from Straight razor design I think it is called Latagio? would this be a good choice?

The strop is Latigo and should be fine. I've never used the Williams soap. I recently switched to a soap called "Cade", found at a fancy store called L'Occident, or something like that. It seemed to be a real step up for me, generating great lather. Soap lasts forever so it's a good idea to get a really nice one.
And welcome aboard!

Thanked: 993If Williams works, keep using it. If you find your skin feels different (in a bad way) from using Williams and a Str8, then you may want to look at other types.
I like the Sienna from Crabtree and Evelyn, as well as the Queen Charlotte soaps. Both generate a great lather, and feel opulent first thing in the morning.
Your strop is a good choice. SRD makes excellent products.
Welcome!

Williams is a good shaving soap-style product to use. I find it also dries out my skin and I have switched to products like Lush which is so lubricating that I've actually never nicked myself using it. I get it at Lush stores. Closest to me is the Natick Mall in MA. I also ran into their store in Vancouver. Great products for the skin.
