Well, two of the three were family heirlooms I didn't want to screw up by trying to hone myself. The third was an e-bay pick I tried honing myself on a 500 Norton (had pitting in the bevel), and followed with a barber hone, but didn't like the results. Tried some more and liked the results less. Figured I'd throw it in the box to get it up to snuff and then I could use the barber hone to maintain it.
That is...I can use the barber hone...when I need to maintain it...after I've shaved with it many times...IF it ever comes.
I am breaking in my new brush in the mean time.

It is really cool to see that Men, as a collective, are learning to do as their grandfathers, and in some cases, their greatGrandfathers did! It is nice to see how everyone shares and seem to lean toward the old ways! SRP is a fine tool for this and shall remain so in the future! Nice Thread!

I rest my case.

I found a bit of treatment...or maybe just a further development of the disease.
I convinced the wife, with very little coaxing, to go "antiquing" yesterday. What I was really doing while she looked at furniture, was "razor hunting." And I got lucky. For the sake of the servers, I'll just put the link here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...que-shops.html
and one pic...
