+1 on shooter's advice. I would opt for a razor from the SRP Classifieds or a new razor strop set from one of the online vendors who advertises here at SRP, if you're just starting out.

Unless you know what you're looking for, ebay is a crap shoot.

    Hello, Mudd:

I always suggest caution to beginners who try to buy straight razors on eBay.

Please note that the pictures in the seller's ad do not show the blade open. The razor is pictured, in all the examples, with the blade closed. Why is that? The razor is lovely to look at, yes, but I prefer to look at it with the blade open so that I can see if it, too, is lovely to look at.

As other gentlemen have suggested, please explore the Classified and the vendors here first. There, you're sure to get an unquestionable deal.

    Regards,

    Obie

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insight. I'm still on the fence, I've found a couple more that look promising and from a seller that deals exclusively in straight razors. I guess we'll just see how good my judgement is when this auction closes in a few hours.

    Any more advice is welcome
I'm looking forward to being a part of the community here.

MY THOUGHT ARE THESE, IF WANTED, IF YOU ARE NOT LIKE A LOT OF US HERE ON SRP, DISSABILITY CHECKS, SSI, SMALL RETIRIE PENSIONS, THEN WHAT I WOULD DO, MONEY NOT BEING ALLLLLLL/THAT MUCH OF AN ISSUE IS BUY THE RAZOR, WHEN YOU GET IT INSPECT IF VERY CLOSELY, IF AS I "SUPPECT" IT IS AS NICE AS IT LOOKS, THEN THE NEXT STEP IS TO FIND A HONMIESTER ON THIS SITE, SEND IT TO THEM AND THEN, THAT WOULD BE YOUR STARTING POINT, YOU WILL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL RAZOR WITH THE RIGHT EDGE AND THEN THE FUN REALLY BEGINS, THE "STRAIGHT RAZOR/WET SHAVING'' LEARNING CURVE, SOME TAKE LITTLE TIME AT ALL, SOME LIKE ME TOOK A LOT OF TIME, BUT ITS' ALL IN THE HOBBY

    Thanks again guys.
I think some congratulations are in order, I settled on something entirely different from the classified
Sometime in the very near future I'll be enjoying my first straight razor shave.
