Thanked: 9A RUDE AWAKENING THAT I AM STILL A BEGINNER
Well i brought my first Dovo, happy as hell, its a full hallow round point. So i take my shower lather, put a hot towel on then lather again, and i start shaving. I was really impressed by the quality of the blade compared to my Geneva. Any way the WTG AND XTG were no problem not one cut( its been awhile since i got a big cut) So i get ready for ATG. First off i had bad acne on my neck so that was torn to bits, and i got a big rash, and when doing the spot between the nose and lips i got a really bad cut. BUT still a great shave. I was wondering if i should stick to the Wtg and xtg till i mastered it and then practice the ATG, also is it not wise to shave when you got bad acne spots ?????

I'd save the ATG passes for later in your development, but if you must do it, here's a safe way. You want to limit the tendency for the razor to flip upward toward your nose, right? One way to do that is to hold the blade with both hands and shave just above and parallel to the skin. You can get surprisingly close this way without developing weepers, and you get to keep your nose. For the area just under the nose, it is probably best to go XTG and just leave what you cannot get that way.
It's been a while since I had acne, but it would be advisable to shave around, not over, those areas.

Sounds like a rough shave.
Yes, I would suggest to stay with the WTG/XTG shave.
If you get that down pat, you should be able to get a more than acceptable shave.
Acne can be difficult. Extra stretching and a very very light stroke is what I use on the occasional zit.
If I go over it at all. With a spike point it is absolutely doable to shave round the little buggers.
Obviously you want to remove the lather and just wet that area just before you get to that area.
It's hard to see thru latherBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 993I'm with the other gents....keep your WTG and XTG passes going, and avoid the ATG for the time being.
FWIW, I can do short short strokes on the WTG only, and get a super close shave. If I go XTG, it means I've got a nice dinner or something in the evening with SWMBO. ATG....never. For me, it's not worth the irritation that may happen.

Thanked: 0I had similar issues, minus the acne. I decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and skipped the ATG pass with the SR. When I needed to get especially close, I did an ATG pass with a high-quality disposable razor. It felt like a bit of a cop-out, but it got the job done.

Thanked: 9YEah i like the ATG cuz it give me a baby smooth face, and my girl freind likes that, but the last time i tried it my neck was blood red. And i just try WTG and XTG and i did this twice over, its not as close but you get a close non rash covered face, I will stick to this till i improved my blade handling and when my acne goes away(if it goes away)
