I'm afraid this isn't gonna comfort you about future spendings, but my rate is noticeably faster than yours.

I've bought three THIS month and have my eye on a fourth....
A C-MON wedge in almost perfect condition, a Wosty Pipe razor and most recently a W&B Celebrated hollow ground which, to my delight, has scales which have aged in really nicely.
Last month I picked up a lovely old Rodgers and a great little Swedish frameback with a brass frame and the month before that a Reynolds hollow ground with a really exaggerated hump in the spine.
I've got black horn on the way to rescale the Rodgers and the pipe razor, blond horn for the Reynolds and camel bone for the frameback. The W&B just needs unpinning and cleaning up, then I can reassemble it, so I'm out to pick up some washers and brass rod this weekend.
I also snagged an Escher the month before last as well...
Ahh, the AD's are good! Dont fight them, just relax and enjoy them!

I've been in less than a month and only have 2 straight razors since I'm on a tight budget. My oldest son is thinking about trying it though and he has been eyeing one of mine so I might wind up back to only one soon. But in the interest of promoting wet shaving that's not so bad of a sacrifice. Besides it gives me an excuse to shop for another one.

Thanked: 1I just joined the site earlier this week, as I endeavor to get into straight razor shaving. Until reading this thread, I was comfortable in the cost of a single beginner's razor and the understanding that I would be with this training razor for a while as I learned the ropes. However, I am finding it hard to decide just which single razor was worthy of not just my cash but placing the entirety of my faith and well being into in order to experience my first series of shaves with such a razor. Reading this thread has caused me to look back at my bank account and wonder if I would need to reconsider the monogamy with a beginner's razor that I had expected.
Is this how it starts?

Contrary to popular belief I do believe it takes more than 1. I was fine when I got 1. it was when #2 showed up that I started to long for others.
But it all honesty I am not spending a ton of cash on my pickups. Razor 1 was a freebe from a local barber, Razor 2 I paid a fair bit for from my POV but it was about 1/2 of what it is worth so I just keep telling myself I can sell it for it's worth and make money on it. The rest I am buying on the cheap. Just hunting and shopping around and looking for steals on ebay. My Wade and Butcher Wedge was 16.00. A couple King cutters were marginally more.
I have a new source now, Old collector who is selling off all his razors. I spent 90 minutes today going through 150 razors. Took 5 from him again all very well priced. And put about 20-30 aside that I will pick a few up each week. Neat thing about this guy and the type of collector he is (does not use them) is what he values as a good razor is often different than what I am looking for. He looks for Ornate scales and fancy metal work on the spine. They are nice if it is the right razor, but things like a Morley and Bros. plain razor or a King cutter he will let go cheap.
The box I am picking up moving forward contains
4 more Bokers which will give me a 7 day set of Bokers with Black scales
2 Wosti Pipes
1 Heljestrand
2 Bengalls
1 Torrey
There were/are more I put aside and a couple that I am now kicking myself for not taking. So will get added to the box.

Good gosh! After reading this today I found another cheap razor that would be good for another shortening project.
This really is addictive!

If anybody was wondering what the definition of RAD is, this would be it guys. Welcome to the start of no ending!
Wait for it, the next step is more hones (HAD), more strops (SAD), and more and more shaving creams, soaps and aftershave balms.....Hmmm, I wonder how that US$70 tub of cream works on my skin, only one way to find out!
Now, when it comes to RAD, I just went to the G. Lorenzi razor museum in Milan (Italy) 2 days ago, and Franco Lorenzi has a whopping 4000+ razors, and counting. How's that for RAD guys, anybody try getting close to that one!
Wukong, even though you're only on 3 razors in one month, that is very respectable for living in the middle of China! All the guys from the US can just pop into an antique shop, or quickly get something off ebay delivered in 2 days, or just buy something at the local shaving shop. You, on the other hand, will have a much harder time getting what you are looking for. Even roaming the internet from where you are is restricted, so, well done!Last edited by leadingedge; 05-14-2011 at 02:30 AM.
