    Default 1 month > 3 razors!

Just started a little bit over a month ago and already have 3 straight razors!
It makes an average of a new razor every 15 days.
Is this frenzy going to be exponential or will it stop somehow?!?
In the affirmative, I obviously have to start looking immediately for a new job with greater benefits to get the extra money I need to buy razors and maybe even should move to a bigger house with a bigger bathroom and why not a special room dedicated only to straight razors.
I could even get rid of stuff like the TV – I don’t watch TV, only my wife does – my Swiss watch – who needs to care about the time when you could have straight razors instead - the microwave maybe, my wedding ring and who knows what else; all these things that look so insignificant compared to nice straight razors!
    And you know what? It’s your entire fault, SRP!{Kidding}
Without the SRP I’d probably simply not know the existence of all varieties of straight razors and wouldn’t spend a lot of time in the classifieds section mulling over what shall be my next acquisition.

First one was a cheapy crappy Gold Dollar, not sharp at all; in fact I had a very hard time shaving with it at the beginning. However about 2 weeks ago I started practicing honing on a Chinese 12k and more recently with my own-made chromium oxide-pasted paddle; after a lot of efforts I had it passed the HHT. I shaved again with it once last weekend, that was better but not great and now I have to work on the scales which are awfully loose; the blade just flips back and forth at its own will which makes it hard to handle properly, especially during stropping and shaving process.

Second was a Dovo 5/8, not sure which model, should ask Leadingedge – my mentor - whom I got her from. She was shave-readied from Leadingedge and I had nice shaves with her until I tried putting her on the Chinese 12k and unfortunately corrupted a bit her edge. She’s not damaged though, I just need to patiently refine her edge and get back the sharpness that was on her at the start.

And this week just received a new perfectly honed Dovo Bismark 6/8 from SRD!
This last one is unquestionably the best of the three. Being a little bit larger doesn’t bother me as I thought she might and actually being slightly heavier than a 5/8 helps me shaving; I’ve realized I tend to unconsciously and unnecessarily put too much weight with a 5/8, but with the 6/8 it feels natural and spontaneous to let the blade do the job, its weight effortlessly having her glide smoothly over my face.

Next could be a Wade & Butcher or a Waker, though I might have to cancel my holiday project this summer and use the extra cash instead for my straight-shaving purpose. I have to find a way to tell my wife we might not go to the seaside for summer vacation, hehe.

More seriously, I’ve just bought chromium oxide powder and I’d like to turn it into a paste for my paddle. Is it a correct way to mix it with mineral oil (1/3 of oil, 2/3 of powder)?
I read somewhere on a French straight-shaving dedicated forum some people would also cook the paste?

    Thank you SRP people
And thank you SRD for my last razor!

pfft. 3 razors in a month.....Rookie....Just kidding, well no not really.

I think we probably started within a few days of each other If I remember correctly.

In that time I have acquired a Schulze ESPE, Filarmonica Doble Temple, Boker King Cutter, Wade and Butcher and Morely and Sons. so that is 5. I considered myself slow in building a collection.

The bad news in all this is the person who I purchased the Morely from is a local guy who is clearing out his collection. He has 70 razors put aside for me to inspect today and purchase.

I think my wife will realize they are not all the same razor if I pull the trigger on this deal

And thus once again we have undeniable proof that straight shaving saves so much money over using those horrible cartridges and that canned goo!

I have only used the Schulze and the Fili. The Schulze is my prefered. It is just so smooth to me. Smaller blade that is just comfortable. The other 3 are being honed right now by MAXI and the Morley is a real looker. I am excited to try it when it comes back. The Wade and Butcher is a Wedge and looks to be interesting as well.

How is the Bismark? I love the look of that razor but can not justify the price right now.

If you continue down that path, you will have slightly fewer razors than I do in 18 months.....LOL RAD really gets expensive!!

Bismark, nicely well-balanced blade IMO, but I can only compare to my 'limited' collection which might not be very objective.

In the time I have been here (just over 6 weeks) I have amassed over 30 razors. Get with it slackers. And the great news is I DON'T have RAD. Good thing too, would hate to think of how crowded my bathroom would be if I did. Why don't we get the same advantages of people with drug problems? Think how nice it would be if you just had to walk to the corner and buy razors when you are jonesin for a new blade. I guess one can dream.

I had two straights for almost 15 years. I joined this site 2 months ago and now I'm at 28 and counting.
