Thrift Store
Guy at the local thrift store was set to inform me of any straights he received at auctions or whatever. He called me to let me know he picked me up an ivory-handled Worcestor. I hear those are pretty nice haha

slick, congrats.
Likely since you have the inside track, this wont apply, but when I come across thrift store finds, they are pretty rough.
Keep your contact happy. Hope this is the first of many finds for you.
Please share some pics once in hand!

Thanked: 993I think this is the way to go these days. An inside track to keep the cost in line, especially since ebay has gone through the roof.
Good luck with your guy. Hopefully he comes through for you many more times.

I agree, keep your inside track happy. Don't forget to educate them. I had one guy who was great, but he approached me with a handful of straights a while back and the price to quality wasn't up to snuff. I didn't purchase all of them and he hasn't called me since.

Thanked: 443I've talked to a few antique dealers lately, and none of them (in western Colorado) has ever bothered putting old hones in their stores. At the most promising store, I invested the time to describe some desirable hones and took in my own collection for them to see. With any luck this'll bear fruit. And yes, I left my phone number!
The downside is that this has never been a very wealthy area, so there's not that much really nice stuff around to find its way into the stores."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

I'll post pics once I get it. Set to get it tomorrow. He said he got that for me for me and one other. I have $50.00 in store credit and he said that should cover it. I don't know the quality of the blades (but the first one alone seems to be more than that.) I might need it restored, but hey, it's still a great find!
