Finally got one right!
I'm as happy as a clam at high tide! I finally, for the first time, have honed a restoration to a level that shaved with no drag or irratation. It is an old Bismarck and it is a very comfortable shaver for me. This is an exciting benchmark for me,( Lynn's Prima Klang is my goal) and just like a little boy I want to share my happiness. As if I wasn't addicted to straights enough already. Now I'm beyond any means of therapy. I must get on to the next one.

Excellent!
Just a note: Speaking for the Geriatric crowd might I suggest you use the default font and font size? I don't yet have a jewler's loupe, but will soon!

Bravo!!
Nicely done. That's gotta feel good. I've driven myself nuts learning to ride the rocks so far. 'Got a long way to go, but the satisfaction shows no sign of letting up.
Savor that edge. May it be followed by many more.

I'm not the most computer literate geriatric patient either. I hit the wrong button again.

I almost started to go off on a wild goose chase to find THE PERFECT ROCK, but after I got hold of myself, I realized that I was/am the problem. My rock collection is totally adequate. I also have a loooooong way to go, but at least we're on the way. Thanks for the encouragement.

How did it take you to get to the point where you're at? I ask because I just got a set of hones and will try to hone my first razor in the next few days if I have the time.

I've tried the same route, and it took me a month or more before I could shave with a blade I honed. It would have taken me much longer, perhaps forever, if I hadn't had the sense to ask for help here and ultimately met with a member in his home to put me on the right track. That made all the difference, and I highly suggest it. Reading about honing and seeing it done are two very different things.

It took about 2 months. There is a serious tendancy to be hard on yourself. I expect the ability to do as well as anyone from whatever I do. We can, as long as we SLOW DOWN ( definetly my problem ) and LOOK at what's happenihg as you work. I started using a 30X loop, and once I under stood what I was seeing in the loop was additional info to use with I felt my observations, ( TPT, arm hair test, etc. ) everything started to click. I'm not an authority by any means, but I must say that the info I've recieved on this site as been invaluable. I watched gssixgun's restoration vid's on youtube and can't thank him enough

There is no way to do anything we do without the help provided to us by this site. I am not much on false praise, but to the Guy's on this site that share thier knowledge and experience unsellfishly for us up and commers, I am truly gratefull and want to thank you for the awsome education I've recieved in such a short time. This is the place to be if you want to grow in any direction in wet shaving. I am glad to be a part of this international group of gentlemen.

You're SO RIGHT about it being the guy holding the rock. At least you're in the same boat as alot of us are. 'Still learning, sometimes tearing hair out, sometimes a wonderful edge. Jimmy and Glen helped me w/ a strange issued I had with most indicators showing a fine bevel, and the performance along the edge was spotty. Some very good, some not. They are incredibly generous w/ their knowledge & skills. I'm grateful for their patience w/ my learning curve.
Keep having fun, Don. You'll soon get to where you LOVE your edges and approach other edges w/ caution.
