Thanked: 993COngratulations. It definitely is a great feeling to hone a razor and shave with it. Now you can start targeting flea markets and antique shops for all kinds of blades that you can restore and hone!

I am using Norton 220/1000, 4000/8000, 12K chineese, Cromium oxide paddle strop, plain leather strop. The cromium does smooth out the edge for a big difference in shave comfort. I also have a cheap set of diamond hones on plastic that I use to refresh stones, re-profile heels, and make a slurry on the 12K. I also use a Norton prep stone for the Nortons.

OMG Don, no way am I going to attempt it. Getting the stones is $$ enuff. I find I get a much better shave if I send mine off to be honed by someone who KNOW's what they are doing. I cherish my blades way to much to subject any of them to ME trying to hone one of them.. Me, hone one of my babies????? heheh, no friggin way man!
For real, that is quite the skill to obtain. I'm into restoration, and I guess I"ll have to attempt the honing someday. For now I'm happy just making them look good. I"ll leave it to the pro's to get them sharp for me.
Who knows?? Maybe it'll be you advertising in the classifieds here, honing others razors for $$. Who knows???
Great job man, keep up the battle!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Hey Hammer, I saw one of your babies on another post and I understand what you mean. It was awesome. Like you I have a load of e-bay razors to learn on. The ones with swiss cheese or bad hone wear get the nod for new techniques and extra practice with no harm done.
