Well, if you do shave your head with the straight, make sure you post the results. I have been contemplating doing that to my head for some time, but I guess I don't have the balls.

I bought a couple of razors from Classic Shaving and had them sent to Lynn for honing. When they arrive I have to practice on my face first. When I do shave my head I'll be more worried about shaving with a SE around the ears. I'll take any tips I can get on that. I'll keep you updated.

I think it will be easier than a DE as long as you use a round edge razor at least to start with. I used to shave my head with a DE and I have never done it with a straight, but I understand the ergonomics of it all. If you use anything but a square edge I think you are going to cut the crap out of the back sides of your head for a while....but you will still eventually get it...if dont cut anything important.....

Man, I've been shaving my head for many a year now and the thought of doing it with a straight is scary as hell...I don't even think that I'd let my wife try and shave my head with one of my straights! Needless to say, you've got some balls and they are definitly bigger than mine. Good luck to you!

I still don't see what's so scary about it. Ok, you don't see anything in the back, but you're dealing with a very workable surface. As long as you don't rush the shave, it's all good. I'd do it myself just to prove it, but I reached the age where a full head of hair is a badge of honor as quite a few of my buddies are already balding lol.
One tip: Try to steal one of Josh's blades as big wedges have longest lasting edges. That reduces the amount of honing and stropping.

I have a number of customers who use straight razors to shave their heads, but more seem to prefer the twin blade head shavers like the Dovo Head Shaver that uses a pivoting adaptor for most of the common twin blade cartridges. The reason is the one others have sited, confidence. The ablility to feel along the back of the head with the thumb and pinkie as they guide the Head Shaver, reminds me of the old "curb feelers" of the 1960's. However, there is no question that the straight razor gives a closer shave.

Thanked: 0Greetings all, Themba here. I have been here for a while, but I rarely post. Like they say: shut up, you might lear something! I find that most of my questions get answered, so I don't have to post questions. Anyway....
I have head shaved with a few of my straights and my hair shaper with Fromm blades. The skin on the scalp is tight, on most people anyway, so there is no need for stretching. I usually employ a combing action. The free hand always covers the ear I am close to, completely pulling it out of the way. I will shave one side with the opposing hand. So if you can imaging using the left hand to shave the right side, coming from the back or from the top, in a combing action, with the right hand keeping the hair safe. That is my method, just seem easier.
However, I prefer, to use safety razors. I use a J.A. Henckels Rapide safety razor with a wedge style straight razor blade. I usually don't straight razor head shave to often, as I keep thinking something bad will happen...ha...ha.
