Thanked: 0Was I deceived?
I bid on and won an auction on eBay. In this photo there are two razors and a PUMA box. eBay item #270014610509
In the description it says "...GERMANY COMES WITH ORIGINAL SOLINGEN BOX..."
The razor has this stamped into it "25". "S.M.F." (in a pennant), and "Solingen Germany"
I thought I was bidding on a PUMA and a Black Diamont.
What do you think?
<edit> Neither razor has "PUMA" on it. </edit>

Yes you fell prey to a misleading suggestion. The box is original to Solingen, but not those razors. You could try for a refund, but it looks like you got a good enough deal.

Yeah, I think so. Why did he have pictures
of two different razors. The guy is obviously
a jerk. Hopefully what goes around will come
around. I would't fret over it too much.

Thanked: 0If this were the only thing in life I had to concern myself with I'd be happy in the extreme.
I sent him two emails asking for an explination. If he doesn't respond in a week or so I'll post neutral feedback. If he does respond, I think I'll simply ask that he keeps an eye out for a PUMA for a couple of weeks and offers it to me at a reasonable price.
Does that sound fair?

That's about all that you can do.
To be honest there are too many
other razors out there to be dealing
with this guy. Keep your eyes and ears
open and I'm sure that a Puma will
turn up.
I wish you luck....

It's a reminder for us that there are good people selling items they know little about. To some of them, a hopelessly chipped and rusted razor may indeed seem to be in "good condition," or an old razor and an old box may seem to go together.
Caveat Emptor.
It's good that you had such an honest seller to deal with. I'm glad everything worked out.
Sometimes I gamble on poorly described and or pictured blades and win, getting good items at exceptional prices. No one else wants to bid on them. Sometimes I lose. I just bought a pretty box with a hopeless razor inside. Well, at least I get the box and some spare parts.

A good alternative to Ebay is www.shopgoodwill.com. It's run by Goodwill thrift stores and they're a little more reliable than your average Ebay seller. There was a Puma razor for sale on there last week that I passed on, but they usually have one or two razors up at a time. That said, a lot of the time they don't know what they're selling; one of the current auctions has a folding pocket knife listed as an antique straight razor.

It happens. Just recently, I bought a 6/8 round point advertised as a Shumate (I love Shumates). It was beatiful, with a nice full blade, no hone wear and "extraneous scratches" on the handle. When I got it, the only thing "Shumate" about it was the box. The "extraneous scratches" turned out to be some peckerhead's initials. It was still a very nice razor, and will make an outstanding shaver one day, but it ain't a Shumate. I left positive feedback because a) it was still a good razor in overall great shape, and b) it was my own fault...I didn't read the ad closely enough, and didn't ask questions. I got lucky this time, but it's a stern reminder to do your homework before placing a bid, and parting with your hard-earned ducats.
