Be sure to let "Mr Shaver" know what you think of his overpriced and sub par work.

Put it in an envelope and send it to Sydney or Melbourne my friend. You will be way better off, financially, and probably the quality of the work. And you don't need "Mr Shaver" for advice. That is what we are for.

80 "Semolians", Like Boss Hog would say, would be reasonable for 3 honings and the if guy was really good ! Don't think I would be doing much business with him in the future.

Thanks for all the advice! I will most likely send it away next time!

I actually had some great news on the weekend, my partner has a barber in her family! Well extended family.. So I'm going to get some lesson honing, stropping etc. So I'm wrapped about that!

He is getting old although... his eye site is starting to get bad and his english isn't very good (Italian guy) but he still straight shaves. Apparently he is wrapped someone my age is wanting to take up straight razor shaving

So I might have to get some Italian translated by the family lol but it should be good to hear what he has to say/show!

Now that's some good news. $80 is about four times what I'd pay here in the states for one of the T-top Hone Masters to take one of my blades from so-so to SO-Nice. I hope his advice aside from his scolding was worth it. Finding an older guy who is well experienced is great, finding one who's EXCITED to share is fantastic!

If you have any questions, or hit any road blocks be sure to post your quesitons up here. It's what we're here for afterall!

    Best of luck to you!

Howdy all! I found this thread on the googles and thought I should join!

Mate I have also had experience with Mr Shaver - not positive. I walked in with every intention to purchase a Dovo Bismarck for which he wanted $<astronomical> but 'would do me a deal'.

I then bought said razor from mensbiz for a little over half that price. I don't expect bricks and mortar to compete with online, but I don't expect to get gipped for trying to help them out either.

As for your original question: I spoke to the barber in Trinity arcade this morning, he said he can hone my razor and also suggested that I bring my strop in so he can give me some pointers. A very different attitude to old mate down the road. Alternatively there is a barber in Freo that has been there for 80 odd years. 5 chairs barbers? 6 chairs barbers? Something like that.

Apologies for the first post mini-rant, but it was needed!

Update to the above. I ended up taking my razor to 6 chairs in Freo. Charged me $15 and they were great to deal with.

As an aside, I'm loving shaving with a straight!

Whats the name of the shop and where about's in Freo is he.

There is a "Australian Shaving Supplies" page for Australia, you should put the details in there.
