Have you checked out whippeddog.com? Larry usually has a few barber hones in the $20-$40 range.

yeah i was thinking about that, he seems to have only small hones for safety razors blades, would this make it more difficult use on a straight? I also have a line on a guy at a local flea market that sells vintage barbers hones and razors in that same $20 range, is there any particular hones a should avoid or anything that is exceptionally good?

Thanked: 1936Franz Swaty's are one of the more favored, but I've never found a "bad" one other than the abuse that it may have taken over the years. Avoid pitted and chipped up hones if at all possible...some can be lapped out when you clean it up and lapp it for the first time.

I'd stick with a Swaty, or even a Chinese 12k. You want a hone for Touch ups...Here's a chinese 12k at woodcraft, you may have a store by you:
Natural Polishing Water Stone - Woodcraft.com
Or as the other's suggested, keep your eyes on the classifieds, or try Larry at whipped dog...go for something higher in grit for touch ups...We have assumed control !
