    Default Newb lapping questions

So now that I have HAD, I've acquired a Norton 1000, 4000, 8000, and Chinese 12000. I also purchased the norton lapping stone. The norton stones got very flat very quickly with the lapping stone, but not much happened to the Chinese other than some scratches from the lapping stone. Do I need to do more? Did I screw something up?

    Thanks,

    Veto

Did you evaluate your lapping by drawing grid lines on your Chinese stone? Without that, it is difficult to see how you are doing.

Yes. Pencil marks were gone, but the stone now has scratches all over

The Chinese stones need to be buffed. if you have a second (Hard) stone that you don't use, use that to polish the stone.

I lapped mine for about 3-4 hours but it came out pretty good.
You want to achieve an extra glossy, glass-mirror-like surface on it.
That´s where it performs best, edge-wise (in my opinion)

I used 400-800 wet dry sandpaper until it was moderatly flat.
Then I took out a credit card sized belgian blue and rubbed it against the chinese for hours.

You might consider using your barber hone for this task of final finish

I also have some small DMT stones they are around 180-240, 600-800, 800-1200 grit, the actual grit isnt recorded
