Just a follow up to my earlier postings. I was at Alan's yesterday and he honed my new Dovo. He gave my so much great information about honing and stroping. Alan also had a "learner" straight and he let me get some honing and stroping practice with it. He showed me how to check for sharpness with a microscope, nail and thumb tests. Thanks Alan for your time and expertise.

I also bought and watched Lynn's DVD. So much great information there too. I am sure I would have ruined a few razors if I had tried to learn from just a book, not to mention hacking my face to pieces and throwing all my straights in the trash and going back to electrics.

I have no doubt that I "shaved" a few years off my learning curve.
