    Default Can't find it!

    Good Evening,
I am new to SRP and have found it both fun and informative, Althought I have gone over the many pages of this site and have not found the information I need, I know I can get the help of the SRP elder brothers.
I have a straight razor that I have little to no way of knowing what it is . I wish I could send in a pic but do not have a camera. So I will describe it as best I can.
It is a 5/8 with a Square tip, dark coffee brown scales, 9" in total length when opened, the markings are a little rusted over so it's hard to read them all, what I can see is, Some rusted over word that I can't make out, then the word "cut" then "cc" (that's the top rocker) and that it's from "New York U.S.A" (thats the buttom rocker) with what looks like a cats head in the middle of a set of wings or a flattend wreth, and "X002" down near the scales.
I would also like to know if this razor is worth my time bringing it back to shave ready or if the blade is trash i.e. crape steel, cheap brand. There are no big nicks that would stop me and the rust is mostly on the tail and that one word, so I could live with the little bit of pitting thats left behind, I would like to try if it's worth it.
Please help if you can, Thank you my bothers.
    V/r Rich.

You want to know what brand it is, so you know whether or not it was made by a quality manufacturer? You want to know that, so you know whether it's worth trying to salvage? Is that correct?

My two cents is to just give a shot. You will learn a lot about restoring and honing a razor. Even if the razor turns out to be bad it's not a loss, you still gained a lot of experience on this endeavor that will make you that much more knowledgeable about straight razors.

Good luck if you do decide to restore it.

I was a little worried when i saw the title

Without photos or a brand it makes it hard to tell if not impossible! If there is some rust around the stamp\writing try a little wd40 and some wet n dry to see if it come up any clearer.

If its not a write off and it can be restored all old razors are worth restoring. (almost) IMO

This is very true, I would like to give it a new life and maybe later passing it on to one of my sons. Besides the story behind getting the razor makes it worth giving it a try.
It just seems to me to be like test driving a car and not knowing what kind it is, or falling in love and not knowing her name, I well try to get a pic of it soon.

No worries there the wife said I never had it to strat with, but after 23 year I must have something, and thats a razor that has just enough rust over the name to make any attempt at lefting nothing more then shining the blade.
Its a deep serface rust But just as you and Ferdly say it's an old blade and worth the try.
