Thread: Need help with my Wacker razor !!

Please help me with this case.

I have bought Wacker Jugendstil. And I have used it 2 times. After each use I cleaned the razor and ensured that it was dry. Last week I noticed 3 rust spots on it. + a little bit of the gold on the spine is missing. I'am really dissapointed, because I didn't expect that from a razor that costs 248 Euro and in such a short time.

Last Thursday 15/september, I called Mr.Wacker in germany and told him about the problem. He had no comment about the missing gold on the spine.
The rust, is not rust said he. It is caused by an ingredient in the shaving soap I use. (Mitchells wool fat). He called it alcoholic some thing... But when I took a look at the ingredients of Mitchells soap, theres is no thing called alcohollic....

He suggested to polish it for me, but the problem would occure again if I use this kind of soap.
I asked him to refund, and sent him a email with pictures, and he told me that he would write me back, but he didnt.


I would like to have a refund bacause I'm not intrested in this razor any more. And because it is obeusly not caused from that alcohollic ingredient. I have to use soaps intented for sensitive skin, And I cant use this razor if it cant handle this kind of soaps. I would not have bought it if I knew it couldnt.

I have opened a dispute on PayPal, and he didnt answer either.

Im I cheated? What should I do?
Do you think PayPal would refund me?

Just my opinion, but I think you are waaaay too picky here, pretty much all carbon steel razors will eventually get stains like that, depending on your water quality.

If that were mine, that wouldn't bother me, in fact I wouldn't even be able to see these things. I would just carry on shaving with the razor. Others may feel differently.

But this is after only 2 shaves.

Would it turn black after 100 shave? :P

I agree with the previous posts. The imperfections you are upset about occur with normal usage of any carbon steel razor. Some of them can be removed with polish. Avoid polishing the goldwash, though.

The only way to keep a straight razor in perfect, pristine condition is to not use it. That, imho, defeats the purpose of owning the razor.

Although you may think that you thoroughly dried the razor, you may not have. It may also be stored in an environment that is humid, such as a bathroom. Forgive me if I am wrong in my assumption.

My routine is, as follows...Strop your razor thoroughly after use--15-20 fabric and 15-20 leather--to remove any soap residue on the blade after use. Then oil the blade with some Camellia oil or some Tuf-Glide gun lubricant. Finally, store your razor someplace other than the bathroom. That may help reduce the chances of corrosion on the blade.

Just my 2 cents.

If even just the faintest smear of soap stays behind, this is what you get. Especially on such polished carbon steel.

I don't know whether the gold on the spine was applied in a bad way or whether you rubbed it off. All I can say is that goldwash is extremely hard to keep on a razor - that's a reason I avoid buying such razors.

As far as the spots are concerned, I use MWF and I've never encountered those. I have a Wacker, no issues with it, but it's an inox razor so that doesn't count since yours is carbon steel. I'm not sure what happened, maybe you stored it in a relatively humid environment ? Something in your water ?

Actually, I don't see why you should be entitled to a refund at all, unless there was a serious issue with the razor when you received it, which apparently there wasn't since you've shaved with it.

I would try to remove those spots, gently, with some metal polish, and after that, always store your razor well-oiled (mineral oil).

Is the area that is marked covered by the scales ? If so I suspect some moisture was present regardless of how dry you think it was.

+1 on avoiding goldwash, especially on the spine, just not worth the heartache, as for the black spots, those are common as everyone says, my TI picked them up within about 2 weeks of buying it, it's just carbon steel for you.

just asking, but how much experience do you have with straight razors? if it's a recent thing, this is why its not a good idea to buy a posh razor early on.

I won't offer opinions on the pay pal dispute etc, but i think its pretty clear the direction the thread is heading in..

That's like avoiding a beautiful lady, in case her looks should fade with age.
